Bittersweet Glory

God lowers himself to our level,
willing to suffer in a world of pain,
so that we can be saved from ourselves.
This world we live in, full of pain and beauty now, will one day be restored to
what we always hoped it would be but never dared believe it could be.
From his suffering, our salvation.
His punishment, our peace.
Please read from bottom to top.

This is a magnificent photo-essay and we thank you.

We always thought that the Cathedral was rebuilt on the original foundation. You have given us the proper appreciation of what has been done.

Yes, the fact that Britain knew that Coventry, a major industrial centre, was to be the target is true. The British had the German Enigma code machine and were able to decode enemy naval and air radio messages. They were afraid that the enemy might discover this and change their codes.

Enigma became a major, if not the major, factor in the Battle of the Atlantic for it allowed the Royal and Royal Canadian Navy to know where the U-boats were operating. The cold calculation of Coventry was repaid in the saving of many lives at sea and the guarantee of the continued resupply of the UK.

There were other examples of Enigma decodes being kept back from operational forces to protect this vital asset.

By the way, we feature the Enigma machine in the Second World War gallery of our War Museum. It is located in the exhibit of the longest battle of the war, the Battle of the Atlantic.

And, also by the way, we knew it was Warrick, just like Worcester is wooster and clerk is clark!

all love
